Hi all! This page is to tell you about the short film that I acted in, produced, directed, & co-wrote, for the Cincinnati 48 hour film project.
At the kickoff drawing, on June 13th, 2008, our team got Film de Femme. As a female filmmaker I thought that was a great genre to work with. It also gave me a good deal of flexibility. I decided to go with a Film de Femme/comedy.
The screening of my short film was held at the 20th Century theater in Oakley, Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 22nd, 2008. Audience response was FANTASTIC, with lots of hearty laughter at all the right places, and a nice big round of applause at the films conclusion.
I co-wrote the story with a very talented Cincinnati screenplay writer, David Lee Cummings. We worked together on the story friday evening, the 48 kickoff night, into the wee hours. When we were finished, I was very excited, as I knew we had a great story & script. Also, just the right actors to play the parts.
The story is about a young single Vietnamese American woman named Clara Vu, a busy career girl who is quiet hesitant to pursue a relationship. Her friends, two married couples, throw a birthday party for Clara. One couple, the hosts, are the 'happily married couple'. (I play the wife) The other married couple are the unhappy, miserable pair. At the birthday party both couples give Clara their opposing views on relationships. Leaving Clara to make up her own mind, whether or not to pursue a relationship. The table dialogue is quite hilarious at times. (-: My Film de Femme comedy has 3 strong female characters, all of whom are expressing their own views & speaking their mind. Oh, & believe me, the guys tell how they feel too!
Sometime in not-too-distant future you will be able to view 'The Birthday Party' on 48tv!
Yes, lots of fun...& I'm looking forward to my next 48 hour film project!
